Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh

 



Born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born February 6th, 1921 to Princess Alice of Battenburg and Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark the youngest of 5 being the only boy. When Phillip was 8 months old his family was exiled from Greece when his father was accused of treason when he worked with the greek army His family fled to Paris where they spent the next 10yrs. Phillip barely saw his parents in 1931 Alice had a nervous breakdown and was sent to a sanitarium in Switzerland. The day she was taking away the 5 children were sent away to return to their mother being gone later being diagnoses with schizophrenia. By 10 yrs old all 4 of his sisters had married german royalty and his father living in the south of France he was by himself. Alice's family took over Philip’s care. In 1937 at 16 his sister her husband and 2 children and a full term stillborn were killed in a plan crashed . Its beloved the crash happended during and emergency landing then his uncle and guardian George Mountbatten died from cancer. When he was 18yrs old he was at the royal naval college in England where he met 13yr old princess Elizabeth of york 7yrs later in 1947 they announced they were engaged. Before they got married Philip gave up his titles including his claim to the greek thrown gave himself the last name Mountbatten became a British citizen and confirmed at the church of England also agreed to not invite his sisters to the wedding due to them being married to germans. On his wedding day, King George gifted Phillip the titles duke of Edinburgh Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich. The queen and Philip have 4 children Charles prince of whales, Ann Princess royal, Prince Edward Earl of Wessex, and Prince Andrew Duke of york they have eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren sadly Prince Philip passed away on April 9th, 2021 at 99ys old and married 73yrs RIP ❤
